Anthropic's Open-Source Gift to Marketers
The one thing you need to know in AI today | AI-Ready CMO
You tell Claude you need an email nurture sequence for trial users. It asks a few questions, pulls your lifecycle stages from your HubSpot, and drafts a five-email flow with timing, subject lines, and copy—configured for how your Klaviyo actually works.
That’s what Anthropic’s new plugins for Cowork can do.
Cowork launched just 2 weeks ago as an agentic tool for non-coders. Plugins now extend it with predefined workflows for specific job functions—marketing, sales, finance, legal, and others. Connect your tools, and it pulls real data instead of working from guesswork.
If you install the Marketing plugin, you get slash commands like /campaign-plan that generates a full brief with objectives, channel strategy, and content calendar. /brand-review checks your draft against your style guide. The Sales plugin has /call-summary for turning transcripts into action items and follow-ups, and /pipeline-review for flagging stale deals and single-threaded risks. These aren’t prompts you need to remember—they’re structured workflows you can standardize across a team.
Useful for sure. But there’s a bigger picture here.
Anthropic open-sourced the entire framework. You can go to their GitHub right now and read the skill files—the documents that tell Claude how to think about a competitive analysis, what steps make up a proper SEO audit, or how to evaluate brand voice consistency. These aren’t code, just plain English instructions. If you can read a process document, you can read these files. Here’s the Marketing plugin—poke around the skills folder.
Reading these is immensely valuable, even if you never use Cowork.
These files are essentially a masterclass in how to document workflows for AI. What context does the model need? How should it structure its thinking? What are the steps, the deliverables, the quality checks? Anthropic has handed us best practices and an open standard.
And nothing is stopping you from writing your own. You probably have workflows in your practice—quarterly planning, creative briefs, vendor evaluations—that aren’t covered here but could absolutely be turned into skills.
Anthropic tends to set standards with releases like this. If you’re going to document and automate your own processes, modeling them on this architecture is probably a safe bet.
