Why Perplexity's Comet is fantastic for marketers
The one thing you need to know in AI today | AI Ready CMO
Perplexity just opened up Comet, its AI-powered browser, to everyone for free. Until now, you needed to be on the $200/month Max plan or lucky enough to score a waitlist invite. Now the gates are wide open, and the company says it’ll stay free indefinitely.
You might wonder why this is so important for you, for your job. After all, a browser won’t generate your creatives, won’t help optimize your media mix, and won’t do customer persona research. Indeed, Comet is positioned as an “agentic browser” that can add concert tickets to your cart, find the cheapest direct flights, and perform other gimmicks.
Who cares, really.
Except—we’ve been using Comet for months, and it’s become our default browser. Both of us. And browsers are sticky, so that’s saying something.
Here are three minor tasks where Comet saved us time just this week:
Copying the text of an FAQ from a website where dozens of questions were displayed in an accordion, with only one open at a time. Asked Comet to find the FAQ, open each question one by one, and return the full text.
Tweaking a landing page from US to UK English. Asked Comet to read the page and come back with changes required in both spelling and word choice.
Tracking down something interesting from a 2-hour YouTube interview when I couldn’t remember the details. Opened the video, asked Comet to find it, timestamp and all.
None of these tasks make it into your performance review. But they’re the ones that eat your day. How much of your time is going to browser busywork you could automate?
